Woodlands Academy Launches Sensory Equipment Case Study to Support Pupils’ Learning
Woodlands Academy is set to take part in an exciting new case study aimed at exploring how sensory-integrated equipment can support pupil wellbeing, engagement and readiness to learn.
The academy has been working with OSI Ltd, which has generously agreed to provide a range of specialist equipment as part of the project. The collaboration will see eight rocking chairs and eight wobble stools introduced into learning environments across the school, enabling staff to evaluate their impact on pupils’ sensory and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
The initiative will explore whether access to sensory-focused seating can help pupils to self-regulate more effectively, maintain attention for longer periods and engage more successfully in their learning. Throughout the study, staff will gather both quantitative and qualitative evidence, including classroom observations, pupil feedback and engagement data, to assess the effectiveness of the equipment.
The project reflects Woodlands Academy’s ongoing commitment to developing sensory-informed practice and creating learning environments that meet the diverse needs of its pupils. By trialling relatively simple adaptations to classroom spaces, the academy hopes to gain valuable insight into how these changes could contribute to improved outcomes for young people.
The sensory equipment is expected to be delivered at the start of next term, with findings from the case study being shared as the project progresses.
Assistant Headteacher and SENDCo Jodie Turner said: “We are delighted to be working with OSI Ltd on this exciting project. It is a fantastic opportunity to further develop our understanding of how sensory-integrated resources can support our pupils to feel regulated, engaged and ready to learn. We look forward to seeing the impact the equipment has and sharing our findings with others.”
