SEND at Woodlands
All of our pupils have an EHCP, with individual support and provision determined by the needs identified within their plan. At Woodlands, three full-time Intervention Leads, who are highly trained and experienced, provide targeted support across the school and work closely with pupils and staff to ensure provision is responsive to need.
We recognise that pupils’ needs can change over time, particularly as they experience different transitions and challenges. Our SPOT assessments provide a structured measure of pupils’ SEMH development and enable us to track progress beyond academic outcomes. This helps us to identify emerging needs early and evaluate the impact of our wider support and interventions.
Our weekly BASS (Behaviour, Attendance, SEND and Safeguarding) meetings provide a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach to identifying and responding to need. Referrals from staff are triaged by Mrs Turner (SENCO), Mrs Prue (DSL), Mrs Killips (Attendance) and Miss Smith (Behaviour Lead), ensuring that concerns are considered holistically. Where appropriate, clear action plans are developed, with our SEND THRIVE approach providing a chronological framework for ensuring that the right support is put in place at the right time and reviewed for impact.
SPOT ASSESSMENTS
Staff assess pupils’ SEMH development three times a year. This provides clear evidence to inform additional interventions and adapt our targeted-plus offer within the classroom. Our SPOT tool also provides robust evidence to support applications for additional funding and inform decisions around potential mainstream reintegration where appropriate.
REFERRAL TRIAGE
Every Thursday, our BASS team triages referrals submitted by staff for individual pupils. From this, the SEND THRIVE process is initiated and a clear, individualised action plan is put in place, ensuring that each referral results in a timely and targeted response to the pupil’s identified need.
SEND THRIVE
Our SEND THRIVE provides a clear, chronological framework for SEND support, outlining the stages followed following a referral. It aligns with the Assess–Plan–Do–Review approach, ensuring that support is targeted, monitored and reviewed for impact. The framework also informs our staff training programme throughout the academic year, ensuring that staff develop the knowledge and confidence to meet pupils’ individual SEND needs effectively.
INTERVENTION TEAM
Our three-strong, full-time Intervention Team delivers targeted interventions beyond the classroom as part of our Targeted Offer. This includes provision linked to EHCP outcomes, SPOT assessments and responsive, reactive interventions. Each member of the Inclusion Team has an allocated space within school, providing a consistent and accessible environment for targeted support.
