Woodlands Academy

Welcome to Woodlands Academy

On behalf of the pupils, staff and governors, and the Community Inclusive Trust (CIT), I would like to welcome you to Woodlands Academy.

As part of a family of schools within CIT, Woodlands can draw on the expertise across the Trust and central team to provide the highest levels of education and care for our pupils.

Woodlands Academy is a specialist secondary academy for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Alongside our ambitious and diverse cirriculum, we have a dedicated interventions and pastoral team to ensure all pupils have access to a bespoke offer.

At Woodlands, we believe that every young person deserves to be known, valued, understood and supported to succeed. We provide a safe, nurturing and ambitious environment where pupils can develop academically, emotionally and socially, building the confidence, resilience and independence they need for life beyond school.

We are fortunate to have extensive grounds, including our sports hall and playing fields, woodland and pond areas, and our developing school farm with six paddocks and a range of animals including alpacas, horses, goats, ducks and chickens. These spaces provide valuable opportunities for pupils to learn beyond the classroom, develop practical skills, build confidence and experience success. Our Key Stage 3 classes also have their own class pets, adding to our caring and nurturing environment.

Our personalised and ambitious curriculum reflects the individual strengths, needs and aspirations of our pupils. Alongside GCSE and vocational pathways, we provide practical and real-life learning opportunities, helping pupils develop the qualifications, skills and confidence needed for their next steps.

Relationships are at the heart of Woodlands. Our small school community means that staff know pupils exceptionally well, allowing us to provide personalised support and respond to individual needs. Our trauma-informed and relational approach recognises that behaviour is communication and that pupils thrive when they feel safe, connected and understood.

At Woodlands, all pupils THRIVE. Our Academy values are Trust, Honesty, Respect, Independence, Voice and Effort. These values underpin everything we do and reflect the culture we want to create across our school community. We also promote the fundamental British Values of Democracy, the Rule of Law, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, supporting our pupils to become responsible and active members of their communities.

We are incredibly proud of our pupils and the opportunities available at Woodlands. We hope our website provides you with a sense of who we are and what we offer. If you would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Many thanks,

Matthew Page
