Pupils Cultivate Success in School Garden

Even under the blazing summer sun, the garden at Woodlands Academy is flourishing, thanks to the dedication of both pupils and staff.

Through regular early morning watering sessions, the school community has worked hard to keep the garden healthy and thriving despite the challenging weather conditions. Their efforts are clearly paying off, with a wide variety of produce now growing successfully.

Pupils have taken great pride in developing and nurturing an impressive range of fruit and vegetables, including maize, beetroot, peas, carrots, celery, turnip, red and white onions, potatoes, parsnips, pumpkins, cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes.

One of the highlights so far has been the first strawberry harvest. Pupils have enjoyed picking and tasting the fruit, which they describe as “amazing” – a true reward for their hard work.

Importantly, all of the produce has been grown organically, with no chemicals used at any stage. This has given pupils the opportunity to learn about sustainable gardening and healthy food choices.

Across all year groups, the majority of pupils have been involved in some part of the process – from sowing seeds to growing and tasting the finished produce. The project has not only supported learning but has also encouraged teamwork, responsibility and a strong sense of achievement.

Woodlands Academy’s garden continues to be a vibrant and rewarding space, demonstrating what can be achieved through care, commitment and a shared enthusiasm for growing.
