As Spring approaches, the pupils at Woodlands Academy are busy preparing the grounds through two different projects.
The first project is to create a two-tier pond environment where pupils can study and watch what happens in the wildlife pond, along with the second aquatic habitat which will have fish. The project is nearing completion and the liner, protective net and pond pumps just need adding. No electrics are needed as the whole system runs off solar energy. The development of the area for a new pond has been provided by the school's RHS grant that has a focus on turning grey spaces green.
The second project is to renovate the pond dipping platform in the woodlands. A group of Year 7 pupils have taken a keen interest in helping develop the woodlands and have jumped at the chance to put on a pair of wellies and develop new skills outside of the classroom. Over the next few weeks, the whole base will be replaced and new decking installed. It is hoped the project will be completed before the start of term 5, where groups and visitors can enjoy the splendour of the school’s woodlands.
