Woodlands Academy Curriculum
Key Stage 3
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum is much the same as you would encounter in a main stream secondary school environment.
• Core Curriculum – English, Mathematics, Science & ICT. Of these subjects both English and Mathematics offer Entry Level accreditation opportunities in Year 9.
• Foundation Curriculum – Art, History, Geography, RE, PSHE, Modern Foreign Languages, Design Technology, Food Technology, Physical Education.
Key Stage 4
In Key Stage 4 pupils opt for two to three courses which are matched to their strengths, interests, career aspirations and abilities. Courses offered include; Level 1 (D-G) awards in Photography, Engineering, Land Based Studies, Uniformed Services Preparation, among many others from Entry Level to L2 qualifications.continue with their progression towards formal qualifications and awards in-line with their strengths, interests, career aspirations and abilities. At Woodlands Academy we believe that it is essential all pupils are heavily involved in personalising and designing their own curriculum through our provision of a range of short-course, long-course, L1, L2 and L3 and GCSE courses on offer in the Core and Foundation subjects.
Our aim is to engage and support our students thus enabling them to meet their full potential as learners empowering them to fulfil their academic potential and achieve career aspirations Post 16. Another aspect of this is met through their tailored Careers Education programmes which develop the skills and attitudes necessary in preparing pupils for their life-long learning when they leave us.
Post 16 Provision
At Woodlands Academy the education, welfare and support of pupils in our care are central to all we strive to do, this philosophy continues through their transition to Further Education, Employment or Training Post 16.
As a school we provide support through a designated Post 16 Officer who works with our Year 11 pupils, colleges, employers and other training providers to ensure that each individual accesses the correct level of Post 16 Provision. Part of our Post 16 Officer’s role is then to support students through application, interview and enrolment in their chosen provision and maintain the support through the transition from Secondary school. As a school we see this as an essential aspect of our work in preparing each of our students for their route into life-long learning.
